Land Rover G4 Challenge International Selection
The Moment of Truth
Rob Howard / 03.02.2006

After a week camping and competing together all 54 selection competitors knew the moment of truth would come on Friday afternoon, when 18 of them would be chosen for The G4 Challenge … and the rest would be disappointed. Before that heart-stopping moment arrived, there was one more competition, a head to head final between the top two teams, based on the competitive scores over the week. This international ranking
Land Rover MD Matthew Taylor read out the international ranking, which will determine the start order in Bangkok, in reverse order. The top two were Italy and Costa Rica/Chile, though the Australians were unlucky to miss out on third place as they were only third by .94 of a second. The full team order was; Italy, Costa Rica/Chile, Australia, South Africa, Turkey, Belgium, UK, Taiwan, Greece, France, Netherlands, Germany, Argentina, Ireland, Spain, Japan, Brazil and Russia.
Everyone left the comfort of the marquee to go out and watch the head to head final so there was a big crowd watching as Italy confirmed their number one position, and then came the announcement everyone was waiting for. Matthew Taylor held the piece of paper with the all important list of names on, and as he addressed the crowd he kept it folded so none of the anxious competitors could read it over his shoulder!
The competitors were all sat together on the stage behind him, waiting to hear the announcement. “I know most of the competitors wish this moment didn’t have to come, he said, “it’s the hardest part of all as they’ve bonded together as such a strong team all week. See All Event Posts
