City of Woodstock GOLDRUSH 24 YMCA AR
Day One of the Goldrush 24
Greg Yetter / 03.03.2006

At noon the first group of teams left the start line for the inaugural YMCA-City of Woodstock Goldrush 24 Adventure Race. Twenty teams arrived for the start of the race, 3 teams failed to show and were DQ'd. The teams were split into 3 groups based on team number and sent out in 15 min. intervals. From the start teams began the first trekking section to the Lake Allatoona canoe launch. At the canoe launch some teams finally read the pack of instructions they were given at the start and got an idea of the first section of the race.Team 8 Marne Express had the first trouble of the race with their canoe capsizing. The team was assisted by the race's saftey boat and continued with the race. The team is in good spirits and hoping to complete the race.
The front running teams are blowing the expected timeline out of the water. As of 1800 on Day 1, the leaders are expected to finish in as little as 20 hours. Current front runners are Team 2-Enduraventure, Team 7-Litespeed/Inova 8 and Team 17-Rock Creek Outfitters.
With tempatures dropping like the sun concern is mounting for Team 14-Oakwood Homes #3 a 2 person male team. At the time of this post, they were on the course but had not checked in with race officials at their next CP. The team is thought to be somewhere between CP 2 and CP 3. Race officials have begun to consider the possibility of starting a Search and Rescue if the team has not reached CP8 in a reasonable time.
