On Western Australia’s exposed South-West coast the waves of the Indian Ocean smash against the shoreline and dwarf-like trees with thickened leaves and branches twisted by howling winds, survive almost defiantly in an extreme world of sand and salt encrustation.

It is here, at a place known as Margaret River, where sixteen teams consisting of some of the world’s best multi-sport athletes, have come to test themselves against Australia’s harsh environment, and of course, against each other. Their challenge, to compete for victory in the opening race of the X-Adventure Raid World Cup for 2006.

As an estimate, thirty seven hours should have elapsed between when the inflatable canoes depart on tomorrow’s first stage and when the mountain bikes finally reach the town of Margaret River on Sunday afternoon. See All Event Posts
