With three stages remaining in the X-Adventure Raid World Cup series opener in South-Western Australia, Team Spyder (USA) has extended its race lead, courtesy of a time penalty handed down to its nearest rival Golite Timberland (N.Z.)

The New Zealanders were penalized after a complaint which was lodged when Chris Forne carried team-mate Aaron Prince’s backpack during yesterday’s punishing 33 kilometre run leg. Prince was suffering badly during the soul destroying run, which was contested in searing heat and soft sand.

The Raid rule book states competitors ‘should’ carry their own back packs.

“Apparently there was just a bit of a confusion going on, Golite Timberland’s Chris Forne told Sleepmonsters.

“We were under the impression that the team has to carry the gear, rather than the individual.

Golite Timberland managed to emerged in reasonable shape after yesterday’s run leg and carried the form into this morning’s opening 14 kilometre river canoe paddle.See All Event Posts
