AROC Sport Adv, Mt Buller Adventure Weekend
Mansfield-Mt Buller Adventure Weekend
AROC Sport / 20.03.2006

It started with a big day at Goughs Bay on the shores of Lake Eildon. First a paddle and run leg with navigation made challenging by the low water levels. Then it was on to the bike and a great pocket of single track in the pines before a refreshing tyre tubing section down the river. A climb up the hill, a rogaine in the pine and eucalypt forests and finishing with a final paddle amongst the trees in the lake. Teams completed the day in style with a beautiful pasta dinner at Cattleman’s Restaurant up on Mt Buller. It started off pretty exciting with race favourites, Team Rapid Assent tussling for the lead with Sponsors TBA for most of the course until John Jacoby had a mishap climbing an electric fence and breaking his wrist. The most stoic of blokes, John rode back to the finish with his arm in a sling and passed a comment that he should probably go to the hospital. I had a look and the bone definitely didn’t look right – I would have been in tears for sure! Sponsors TBA, a local Melbourne team of 3 lads who have only been adventure racing for 6 months kept on the pace to come in first on Day 1 in just over 5.5 hours. The mixed team, Melbourne Adventure Wilderness Wear came in second and Paper, Scissors, AROC from Canberra came in third. The Weav’n Leotarts where the first female team in.
