Of the 20 teams expected in Seville for Bimbache Extrem, the third World Series race of 2006, 17 have arrived for race registration on Tuesday morning.

Two teams were late withdrawals, including one of the race favourites, Buff Coolmax, who couldn’t find a late replacement for Helen Jackson of the UK, who was injured in the week before the race. “They tried calling people all over Europe, said Race Director Antonia de la Rosa, “but they could not find anyone and had to pull out

The Columbian team Rios y Canoas, captained by Ruben Dario Boada had problems of a different kind. With their flights booked and entry fee paid they were refused visas to enter Spain and they too had to pull out.

There is still hope that the third team missing off the start line will arrive. Bergson Mapy of Poland decided to drive across Europe to the race, but have not arrived for registration or telephoned. Everyone is just hoping they make it in time for tonight’s Prologue stage which begins at 18.00. Even if they miss that the main race does not begin until Wednesday morning in Cordoba, so they have another day to make the start.

One Columbian team has arrived – the experienced international campaigners of Bosi Colombia led by Jorge Luis Llano. They are the only team racing with 2 male and 2 female racers and are one of 3 South American entries here. Faap-Nokia have travelled from Brazil and Dielectro from Argentina and all are adjusting to jet lag. At breakfast Llano commented, “At home it’s one in the morning, but we have been here a couple of days now and are beginning to adjust. And in the race we’ll race through the night anyway!See All Event Posts
