The Rain in Spain

The residents of Southern Spain are delighted – it’s been raining for the past few days and the forecast for the rest of the week is for more rain to come. In a country affected by persistent water shortages grey skies are good news, but for the 18 teams competing in Bimbache Extrem it will make life harder.

“I have been riding the mountain biking sections, says Race Organiser Antonia de la Rosa, gently shaking his head, “and it’s much heavier going and slower now than I’d expected. I think it will be maybe 10 hours slower than I’d planned for the winners – but we shall see. A little while later he was talking to his ropes team on the phone and the weather was causing other problems.

“For the last few days the via ferrata section hasn’t been possible, he says. “It leads to the tyrolean and we have an alternative, but the via ferrata is very beautiful so I hope we can use it.

As the teams registered and went through their kit checks on Tuesday morning at the Hotel Isla Cartuja it was overcast and breezy, but at 17C a pleasant enough temperature for racing.See All Event Posts
