The Kentucky Adventure Race Weekend is Back!

Odyssey Adventure Racing’s new owners, Ronny Angell and Hollie Flynn, have brought back the Kentucky Adventure Race Weekend after a three year hiatus. This year the race weekend begins on April 1, 2006.The weekend begins on Friday evening with the Kentucky 12 Hours Adventure Race registration and gear check for the competitors. Later Friday is the mandatory Race Brief, to lay out the format of the race and answer any last minute questions from the racers.
The Kentucky 12 Hours Adventure Race begins on Saturday morning at 0700 EST. The morning temperature is expected in mid 40’s and daytime highs in the low 60’s with overcast skies. Competitors whom complete the course will challenge themselves with a combination of mountain biking, trail running, flatwater canoeing, orienteering and non-technical caving. To help encourage the novice race teams there is no certifications required for this race. This race is unsupported; racers who want to finish in the top 10 have to do all the planning for the transitions.
The race has attracted over 30 teams and 11 are soloist. Odyssey Adventure Racing is one of the few race organizers that allow solo racers. Solo Adventure Racing can have its own dangers, as one racer found out on the Virginia Creeper Trail during the 2005 Beast of the East. Let’s just say deer ALWAYS have the right of way. The 3-person Coed teams are competing for cash and prizes. The First Place Coed team will take home $575 in cash. The second and third place teams will be awarded race vouchers $300 and $150 respectively, that can be redeemed for entry to future Odyssey Adventure Racing events.
This race also starts the Odyssey Adventure Racing 12 Hours AR Series, with the Mountain Sports Festival 12 HR AR and the Odyssey Wild Wonderful 12 HR AR rounding out the series. The coed team with the highest total points for the series will win a $900 race voucher and entry into a Odyssey One Day AR in 2007.
