The 7th event in the Quest Adventure Race Series was held at Ardingly Reservoir, West Sussex. We are excelling in our excellent weather record, and once more the sun shone down and made a perfect day for the race to come.
Just like the Derbyshire race last month, this race was again sold out, although this time 3 weeks before the event. Due to popular demand we did, however, run a 2 stage race alongside the full 3 stages, and had a total of 14 teams take part in this extra element to the day. In all 47 teams arrived on the day which made for a great competitive race.
Once again, we started with the canoeing stage - a tall order for some teams who spent a huge amount of energy just trying to go in a straight line. We even had one team who decided to give up on the canoeing and try swimming instead!
We had quite a mixed bag of competitors including for the first time a team from the Royal Marines, 4 2 commando - \'Loonie Racing\' who are preparing for the Eco-Challenge next year, and decided that Questars was a great place to start their training. As first timers, they entered our Novice category and managed an excellent 2nd place with a total of 730 Questars.
We also had a team who travelled all the way from Ireland just for this event – ‘Thongs Can Only Get Better’ who, although shattered and a little shell shocked at the end of the day, managed a very respectable 5th place overall with 620 Questars in the Novice Category.
The running stage was obviously a high point for new 3 stage entrants –‘Amphibians 2 Tri Club’ who scored 375 Questars, whilst our 2 stage entrants, ‘Team Barry’, excelled at the running, scoring 475 Questars. Dan Straw, the winner of the Solo Men\'s category was the star of the mountain biking stage by managing to visit every check point and score the maximum of points with 575 Questars. In the end, however, it was husband and wife team, Steve and Kate Hannay who were very surprised to find that they were the overall winners as ‘Team Chopper\', with a fantastic 815 Questars.
