The race #2 of Explore the West is in the hat.
With conditions having taken a turn, temperature hit the 100 degree mark for the first time this year, and a stiff 20mph south wind make conditions tough. Real tough.
Those that made it to the finish line have some serious bragging rights, feather in the hat, notch in the belt...all of the above. A course that barely was over 50 miles long, it was the technical aspect and navigation challenge that made this event memorable.
Some teams facing the big trek/canyoneering and pack raft section just found the section too intimidating...and turned in the bib-so to say.

The 9 teams that endured to the finish found the packrafting in the Colorado River under the full moon lit sky, as the most impressive part of the course. Team Dart had an epic experience in the section, encountering a completely random release of the hoover dam at 4 a.m. Just 1 mile below the dam, moving forward became nearly too much for the team to manage. With only the luck of equally as random a shut down of the release did Team Dart manage to get up to the take out point of the River.
The stories of this event will be told for years. Check out www.explorethewestar.com for more.See All Event Posts
