Dynamic on the Quantocks
Jonathan Mayne (Dynamic Adventure Racing) / 22.05.2006

The Quantocks is one of the UKs’ best kept secrets with tough hills, deep coombes and fantastic mountain biking. It was the chosen location of Dynamic Adventure Racings second race of the year, attracting 100 of the UKs top adventure racers to battle it out.The sun popped its head out occasionally throughout the day, the light breeze cooling off the competitors who were forced into making several uncomfortably steep ascents on bike and foot. As the racers marked up their maps, it became clear that good route choice would be essential in getting a top spot and the checkpoints were placed either at the tops of ridges or at the bottom of valleys.
The majority of competitors opted to run first, assessing that the 18 run checkpoints would take slightly less time to clear than the bike. After 2hours 35 minutes, Nick Gracie and Tom Gibbs strolled in with hardly a bead of sweat on their untroubled brow! After a breathtakingly quick one minute transition they headed out on their bikes.
Team SleepMonsters where the next crew in just over 3 hours – local racers Dave Hooper and Debi Snow showing off his back yard to Chris McSweeney. Another slick transition and it was clear that both these teams would be clearing the course with some time to spare. The Dynamic Adventure Racing duo of Piers Constable and Greg Fisher showed that the bike could be cleared, finishing the stage in 3 hours 30 minutes, leaving them plenty of time to complete the run.
Sadly control 106 had been stolen overnight by an unscrupulous individual, so the Dynamic team had to replace the control with a three letter word that competitors could write down and have the points allocated when they downloaded their Sportident cards back at base. Following much thought it was decided that the CP would be named after the individual who’d removed it – RAT!See All Event Posts
