Infiterra Sports Coast to Coast
MIC2C Begins during a beautiful evening
Corey Rosen / 01.06.2006

During the day today, rain came down in Frankfort, Michigan. This made the start of the race something that some people did not look forward to. We departed Frankfort for the start line at 5:30pm. By six, the rain had let up and the racers were commenting on how the rain may help with the beach trek, making the sand easier to run on. When everyone arrived at the start, teams were given a few last minute instructions, than the countdown began. At 7:00pm, Eastern Standard Time, the competitors of the Michigan Infiterra Sports Coast to Coast began from Glen Haven on the northwest corner of the lower peninsula of the state. The teams made there way west along the coast to Empire. Here was the first CP where team grabbed their bikes and headed towards Wilcox. Team SOLE was the first to arrive at 8:19pm. The teams quickly following them were Eastern Mountain Sports, Absolute Endo, and Checkpoint Zero.
Teams were found heading in different directions to CP2. Some teams took the designated route over the hills near Empire. A number of teams, nearly half, took the Interstate and found that to be a longer route in distance, but shorter in time.
Eastern Mountain Sports arrived at CP4 TA1 for the canoe put in approximately fifteen minutes before Team SOLE. With the quick transition, Team SOLE was able to get in the water five minutes after Eastern Mountain Sports. By midnight, less than half the field had left TA1 on the paddling leg through Lake Michigan. Since the paddling leg will be at night, teams will find the lake section to be more calm then most lake paddles.See All Event Posts
