Infiterra Sports Coast to Coast
Long Nights Journey into Day
Corey Rosen / 01.06.2006

With the first day of the race behind them, teams move towards the East on Lake Michigan to the Elk Rapids dam. With a quick portage, teams made there way paddling North to the Torch River and on to Rapid City. Since the land surrounding the river was private property, teams were forced to hike-a-canoe up river to the TA. Team Eastern Mountain Sports had left CP4/TA1 about ten minutes before Team SOLE but arrived at CP6/TA2 fifteen miuntes after them. This was only the first of a number of lead changes for day two. After departing CP6/TA2 first in the pack, SOLE made their way Northeast towards CP7 at the northern tip of Smith Lake on the second bike leg. Since the two teams were so close together, Eastern Mountain Sports decided to take a completely seperate route to try and pass SOLE. EMS arrived at CP7 almost twenty minutes ahead of SOLE. It seemed that as long as the routes the teams were taking were different, this could be anybodys race.
Heading East towards CP8 at the southern tip of Sand Lake, EMS lost a good chunk of their lead arriving at CP8 the same time as SOLE. CP9/TA3 directly south of CP8, was the next stop on this cross state race. Team SOLE and EMS arrived right on each others heels at 8:41am. With a rather fast transition, SOLE speeded on through the TA in less than twenty minutes forcing EMS to speed up their break time, and departing TA3 ten miuntes after SOLE.See All Event Posts
