Team Captains Meeting June 1, 2006: Preparation for Stage 3
Doug Doyle / 02.06.2006

At 9:00pm Jonathan Geisler, Race Director gathered the team captains at race headquarters to review the stage three course in Timmins, Ontario. He presented a revised, scaled down mandatory gear list and explained the race will be a ‘fun’ race that will take the teams around and about the Town of Timmins featuring highlights of the area including descending into a gold mine.
The race will start at 10:30am and finish at the McIntyre Centre. The start will feature a LeMans start, which should prove interesting to watch racers with blistered and mangled feet sprint from the start line to their mountain bikes 400 meters away.
The teams support crew will have a break today as their only responsibility will be to transport their team to the start line and pick them up once they have finished the course.
When asked how long the race will be, Jonathan told them it will “less than a day but qualified that teams should be done within four hours and this stage is meant to be a ‘fun’ day for the teams. I would not put much weight to this statement as Race Designer Bob Miller, when he was testing the nasty trek section in Stage two, thought this hike was ‘fun.’
I will be trying to keep ahead of the racers and provide race updates to the site.
