Route Description:

The final day of racing will take place in and around the City of Timmins with the objective of seeing as many highlights of the surrounding area as possible. Beginning at the MacIntyre Centre, teams will mountain bike up to Hersey Lake Conservation Area. At this point they’ll face a short, but intricate section of orienteering through an airy mature Jack pine forest and amongst many small lakes and ponds. After the orienteering, they’ll transition back to mountain bikes and ride a marked loop around the conservation area following km’s of tight-twisty single track, that’s been purpose-built by the local cycling club. After the mountain-bikers have had their fill, they’ll continue east on old mining roads through the Davidson Gold Mine property, and onto the many cycling paths around town. This will bring them to the old, decommissioned Hollinger Mine, which was once the world’s leading gold producer. Here, they’ll go under-ground, and locate a series of checkpoints in the old mine, before they return to the surface via a series of ladders and shafts. From there it’ll just be a short mountain bike ride to the finish, where they’ll celebrate almost a week of racing over 400 kilometers.
