On July 22nd & 23rd, more than 300 adventure racers battled it out over a 60-mile or 100-mile and Sprint race courses in Summit County consisting of mountain biking, kayaking, trail running, orienteering and trekking.  Top Teams vying for cash prizes, series points and qualifying spots into the USARA National Championships included Team NIKE/Beaver Creek, Team Salomon/Crested Butte,  Team Go Lite/Timberland Sprint, Team BagelWorks, Team Durango.org and Team Spyder.

The 24 hour race started at midnight with racers running about a mile over to the Marina where racers put on the water casting an illuminating sight of racers boats marked with glow sticks navigating amongst three checkpoints on Dillon Reservoir.  The 24 hour racers then ran to the Frisco Peninsula area for a challenging 30 Control Point Orienteering Section designed for the racers by the Rocky Mountain Orienteering Club.  Team NIKE finished the Orienteering Section in first place followed just minutes later by Danelle Ballengee of Team Spyder.  Teams BagelWorks, Salomon/Crested Butte and Go Lite/Timberland Sprint were within minutes of each other coming back from the O-Course with Team Salomon/Crested Butte missing one Control resulting in a 10 minute time penalty. Racers then raced off for the trekking section over several mountain peaks high above the Breckenridge Ski Area followed up by a 40+mile mountain bike section with highlights including the Colorado Trail.

Team NIKE/Beaver Creek (Mike Kloser, Sari Anderson, Jay Henry and Dan Weiland) took first place in the Breckenridge AdventureXstream 24 hour Race 4-person Co-ed category with a winning time of 15 hours and 14 minutes.   Hot on Nike’s heals in second and third place went to Team BagelWorks with Jon Brown, Andrew Hamilton, Matt Hannon and Joelle Vaught (15 hours and 34 minutes) and Team Salomon/Crested Butte (15 hours and 50 minutes) respectively.  First place solo 24 hour female finisher went to Summit County resident, Danelle Ballengee of Team Spyder with a winning time of 16 hours and 30 minutes.  See All Event Posts
