All 32 teams completed registration on Monday in preparation for the Adventure Racing World Championship starting Wednesday. Teams representing 14 nations were required to have all clothing and technical equipment checked and completed a number of competency and technical skills tests for fixed rope and repelling, glacier travel and medical tests.

Part of the ropes test was a free abseil from the ‘Golden Globe’ building, a construction resembling an air traffic control tower which is part of the race HQ at Fjällparken. There were also some notable failures on the inlines test, particularly one of Brazilian racers who completely failed to stop and dented a nearby car! There is the option of using kick-bikes rather than inlines, and quite a few teams have put in order for these.

Many team members have also chosen to assist the AR Research Team with their research into the physiology of leading teams where competitors will participate in a range of tests for researchers analyse during the race.

Racers are on 'lock down' in Hemavan until the race start, with teams unable to explore any of the tracks or walkways surrounding the Race HQ at Fjällparken. The course is strictly confidential and teams have been given limited exposure to course information. This will be revealed to teams at race briefing following the Opening Ceremony on Tuesday.See All Event Posts
