Adventure Racing World Championship 2006
Through the Fog
Rob Howard / 17.08.2006

Within minutes of the time predicted by Race Director Michael Nordstrom the leading teams arrived back at race HQ after a night spent mountain biking and trekking in poor weather high in the mountains. Positions had changed slightly overnight but there was still very little to choose between the top teams, with Team Finland, Aberdeen Asset Management, Nike Powerblast, Bjuofors and Merrell/Wigwam all arriving within 20 minutes.
First to arrive were Team Finland just before 08.00 and they were in and out of transition in under 4 minutes! Petri Forsman said they had difficulty with punctures yesterday and that the trekking in the fog was particularly tough for his team. He suggested they’d lost time finding the way and that it had been easier for those following as the cloud lifted a little.
Next to arrive were the British team Aberdeen Asset Management. “It was a lovely ride up into the hills last night, said Helen Jackson, but Warren Bates added; “That last bit was rubbish. He was talking about the 8km ride down from the last Gear Zone, where the trek ended. “I think the best navigators came through last night. We were moving more slowly than the others but Tom (Gibbs) nailed our route. He was spot on all time.See All Event Posts
