Adventure Racing World Championship 2006
Surviving to the Finish
Rob Howard / 22.08.2006

When Port Nelson/Grisslytours.com set off from TA10 on their 3 sets of inline skates and one kickbike it was a shaky start. Lisa Savage was on the kickbike, being towed by one of her team mates who was inlines … a very precarious place to be! Especially as the end of the skating section is along a rough dirt track – there may be some thrills spills ahead for the kiwi team! They soon crossed a metal suspension bridge and skating over the latticed metalwork was an uncomfortable experience. They were clinging to the side of the bridge and regularly slipping over, laughing about it at the time, but it may not be such a joking matter after another 2 to 3 hours at the end of the dirt road.
The kiwi team are currently in 16th place, nearly 90 minutes ahead of Buff Sweden and Hercules, who arrived at TA10 together at the end of the river paddle. The TA is at a picnic spot by the main road, and planes for Mo i Rana airport fly low overhead as the landing strip is a few kilometres up river.
The river was an easy paddle on languid blue green water, through large areas of forest, and a chance for the teams to recuperate a little. And they need to. On day 7 of the race these are now among the last teams still in the race and it’s about surviving to the finish. See All Event Posts
