What Makes a Winner?

The obvious question to ask Ian Adamson is; “How do you keep winning?, and there is of course no easy answer ... but he gave it a try.

“The trite answer is to find stronger, fitter and smarter team mates than you, but you know there is a lot of decision making goes on out there and experience counts.

“So does the will to win. The Finns surprised us in this race and I’m sure they had it in them to beat us. It was our decision to go for a win when we came off the paddle and you always have the choice in what you want to do. People can make excuses about the weather or something else, but it’s the same for everyone out there and your choices are all that counts.

“I don’t think I’m particularly gifted at anything – maybe just very pigheadedness!

“Your team work has to be good of course and the team do have all the skills. Dave was a champion mountain biker for 16 years. That’s a long time at the top of a sport and he has what it takes to be a winner. Monique has a deep background in many sports and could be a champion in most. She sometimes goes ski racing for fun and beats our Olympic team but does not really concentrate on anything so well. She gets distracted.See All Event Posts
