Whales, Rocks and Sand at Geographe Bay

In a wetsuit with my swim cap in one hand and swim goggles in the other. Anaconda man appeared and jumped into the cold waters of Dunn Bay to start the second Anaconda adventure racing in Geographe Bay, Western Australia. The swim was meant to be only 1.9 km however, it was more like 2.5 km in length. I managed to reach dry land in around 44minutes. This was a significant improvement compared to how I normally swim. I found out I was only 8minutes down on Guy Andrews and 4 minutes down on Jody Zerbst. Meanwhile in the solo females’ category Karla Gilbert had an amazing swim coming out in a time of 37minutes and 37seconds and our very own Delyth Lloyd was in fourth place also 8 minutes behind the leading solo female. The leg which followed the swim was a very rocky and sandy coastal run of 13 kilometers. After the first 2 sandy kilometers I began to find a nice running rhythm. Over the next three kilometers the running surface became very rocky. You are required to concentrate and use all your balancing skills to move fast over these sections of rocky coastline. You have to try and maintain your rhythm and momentum under all circumstances. Once you hesitate or slow down to avoid the rock in front of you, you will loose valuable time and your running rhythm. I rounded Castle rock, through Meelup Beach and Eagle bay then finally, I ran around rocky point and was on the home stretch of beach to Bunker Bay.
