The Gunbarrel Challenge
Laverton to Cosmo Newberry
Phil Evans (Economical World Challenges) / 02.10.2006

After a race briefing including instructions on how to deal with wild camels and snakes and an opening ceremony by the mayor of Laverton, the 38 competitors in this years Gunbarrel Challenge left relative civilisation and headed out along the Great Central Highway.A constant headwind, 35C heat and a corrugated sandy surface made the morning stage extremely hard, with a handful of riders suffering from cramps.
The afternoon stage was started during a torrential downpour with hail stones falling in the 35C heat. The wind had however done a complete turnaround and this coupled with cloud cover and a slighty firmer riding surface made going easier.See All Event Posts
