If simply getting yourself to Medellín, Colombia, is not adventure enough, the events of "7 Cerros Medellín: The Urban Adventure Race" are sure to get your heart racing.

As you read this, over 1500 competitors are preparing for next week's race: a three-day staged race starting this Saturday October 14th. There are entry categories both for individual competitors, who can choose which discipline to compete in (trail-running, mountain biking, in-line skating, or orienteering) as well as for traditional AR teams of four. The AR teams will compete in all of the events listed above, as well as in fixed-ropes events and in a traditional Colombian sport: racing through the streets on little wooden go-karts that they will make themselves! (I need to see that to tell you about it - more about that in a future instalment...!) AR teams can expect to cover about 150 km per day.

Medellín, the second-largest city in Colombia, is set in the high-country northwest of Bogotá, just 6 degrees north of the equator and at an elevation of 1500 m. Race Director Jorge Diego Llano (member of the Colombian Aventure Team and co-organizer of BOSI Travesía Max Adventure) tells me that the race will take place both in the city streets as well as in the picturesque hills (the "7 Cerros") that surround Medellín. Racers can expect to encounter elevations of between 1500-2500 m each day, with generally pleasant temperatures of 15-20 degrees.

"It's been raining a bit at night, but really sunny during the days. And bring your trail runners," he instructs me, "so you can follow the racers up the hills."See All Event Posts
