International teams arriving in Medellin

I spent the afternoon with ABARTH-TEVA's Antonio de la Rosa, Monica Aguilera, and Aurelio Olivar. The Spaniards arrived here yesterday, along with the French team INTER SPORT, and their extra time here will undoubtedly give them an advantage – both in acclimatizing and getting used to the time difference, and in getting organized and making last-minute purchases. ABARTH-TEVA spent much of the day getting gear – especially finding a scooter for Aurelio, since inline skating is not his forte.

Bad luck for Sweden's team HALTI. They were also due to arrive yesterday, but only Frida (who is living in the USA) made it. Mikael and the boys missed their flight from Sweden. Seems that there are not a lot of options of how to get from Sweden to Medellin. They made it as far as Paris that first day, and overnighted there. Today they made it to Miami and are spending the night there. Frida is waiting anxiously for them, but they are not expected in until late tomorrow.

The rain has definitely been falling here! The locals tell me that there are no seasons here (makes sense, this close to the equator), and even the wet and dry are not that predictable. It just rains for a few months and then dries up for a few months. Well, my arrival last night was spectacular, landing in Medellin with big rain drops streaking past the windows and lightning flashes all around the plane! The rain dumped for most of the night.
