We have just returned from the 7 Cerros Medellín official opening ceremonies. Team FINLAND received their prizes for winning today's UNE CHALLENGE relay, then Race Director Jorge Diego Llano handed out some basic preliminary race information.

Teams start at 7am at the base of Cerro Volador, the smallest hill right in the city, on skates. From there, they will continue cycling, trekking, orienteering, and trekking again, and will finish with ropes and one last trek back down the hill. Expected winning time is about 8 hours.

Although they know the order of the stages, so they can organize their gear boxes (two boxes allowed tomorrow), they do not know the distances or the locations. They will be given 1:10,000 scale maps (1:5000 for the orienteering stage) tomorrow at 6am, one hour before race start. All place names on the maps will have been deleted, so that the Medellín teams will have less of a local's advantage of simply knowing where to go, and will also have to use the maps to navigate. Sweden's Mikael Nordström expects the navigation to be difficult, "especially in a race that is so fast. I think that every team will be lost at least once."

So, for now, everyone is frantically working on final preparations – having a meal even though it is late, sorting food and equipment into the appropriate boxes, and hoping to get at least a bit of sleep before the 5:15am departure from the hotel.
