7 Cerros Medellin Adventure Race
Sweden's HALTI drops out
Jacqueline Windh / 16.10.2006

When we first heard that HALTI had retired from the competion, Mikael's fiancee Helena said "It must be really bad. They have a philosophy of never giving up."But she tells me that Mikael was throwing up all night and was having trouble breathing. PA has not been able to eat much since the morning that the race started.
HALTI have had a lot of things go against them this race... their botched up journey here, equipment that didn't arrive, and then two team members being sick. We are all sad they they are out of the competition, but at the same time relieved that they are all OK, and that they didn't have any accidents or injuries.
I just saw them here at the CP where teams come in from orienteering and headout on their bikes, in downtown MedellÃn. I had a quick chat with them before they headed back to the hotel. "It was getting ridiculous," said Mikael. "We were going slower and slower, no power, getting further and furth back. And this is a staged race, very fast, not like an expedition where you just keep going.
"I feel really bad. It is the first time that I am the one to quit a race."
Frida, who has been feeling good and strong all along, for the moment is continuing with Finland's 3 STEP IT. The boys have left her bike here for her - we'll see if she stops here or keeps going right to the finish, only a few more hours from now.See All Event Posts
