A Hard Start and a Cold Night

It was 4:30 am when we started the trip to the base of Pratileias Peak, located in the National Park of Itatiaia. Fine rain that fell on Sunday night and the dense fog this morning indicated we\'d hardly see the sunrise and that the temperature would be very low. The cold was the worst enemy of the competitors during this first night.

The thermometer at the Rebouças Shelter at 2.350 meters read 5 degrees Celsius, but the strong wind that blew meant it felt below zero. From there we faced a hike between rocks to reach our destination.

Many times the weather looked like it might improve and a small blue spot appeared in the sky, but all too soon the gray clouds swept across again.See All Event Posts
