WorkForce One 6 Hr MTB Challenge
Kooralbyn 6 Hour Race report -
Jeff Toohey / 27.11.2006

Saturday meant Sunday was looking ominous. It was looking to be extremely unfun. We drove there in the rain, setup in the rain and went back to try & relax in the resort…while it was still bucketing down. We were thinking that even if the rain was to stop then & there, it would be just bareable. It actually did more than that. Not only did the sun clouds break late Saturday arvo, the morning greeted us with a cloudless horizon and the squelch underfoot….gone! It was set to be a beauty. Warm, but a beauty. With the time ticking down quickly before the start in the morning, I thought a quick warm up / test ride on the bike wouldn’t go astray especially seeing as I hadn’t really given it a proper ride since the scott 24 hour. It wasn’t long, more like 20 meters up the road, that I knew something wasn’t right. It turned out the cassette lock-ring had just sheared some threads on the kings!! Thankfully during a similar issue some months before, in the middle of nowhere, a certain bush mechanic wedged a bit of wire in between the cogs to lock it all in. This time however it was a little worse although a quick pair of hands, chain whip, spacers, wire & tools flying and I was finally all wired up & locked in ready to go. A few minutes later after bolting down to the start, we were off.
