A total of 52 teams lined up at the start line of XKRace Xtremo 6000. Although many adventure races these days cover close to 200 or more kilometres in 24 hours or so, organizers had warned that this race would be a tough 250 km. Competitors would have 3 days to cover the 6 long stages that make up the route.

Stage 2 was a gruelling trek, starting at 2000 m and ascending to a point called Balcón, at 4800 m. The trek started at night, and teams had to negotiate three crossings of a rushing mountain river. Along the ascent, organizers had medical personnel stationed at several place to assess the health and conditions of competitors as they climbed. Any racers who, whether by their own assessment or by that of the race personnel, were not in a fit state to continue the ascent, were given a time penalty but were allowed to continue in the race.

Fifty two teams, mostly from Argentina but with a handful of teams from elsewhere in South and North America, set out at the start, on Thursday February 1. Categories include both mixed and all-male teams of three. So far, 14 have finished. 25 teams have withdrawn, and 13 are still in competition and should finish today.

A total of US$40,000 in prizes will be divided up between winners of both mixed and all-male categories. Team Sole (Karen Lundgren, Paul Romero, Petri Forsman) will take the top mixed-team cash prize of $13,000. Preliminary results of first five teams in are:
1. Team Sole (USA/Finland) – mixed
2. Muni. de Calingasta 1 (Argentina) - male
3. Curtlo Argentina (Argentina) - male
4. Banco Hipotecario (Argentina) - mixed
5. Garmont M&G Kayak (Argentina) - maleSee All Event Posts
