Arabian Quest Challenges Competitors with Extreme Race
John Falchetto / 04.02.2007

The first race of the 2007 series of Arabian Quest was held on January 26th. It is a running/mountain-biking competition for pairs. The second one-day race will be held on February 23.Team Slowly Slowly could easily claim the title of regional invincible team. Ski Sharp and Sandrine Descant once again claimed the mixed team title and the fastest team in the race.
“I recently injured my knee badly during a training bike ride, so I couldn’t go as fast as I hoped, said Descant, the French national of team Slowly Slowly.
Teams had to deal with little or no sleep after a 3am start at the foothills of Ras Al Khaimah. Following a short bike ride, teams had to carry their bikes up a steep and narrow canyon filled with large boulders. The first checkpoint was located in the middle of that canyon to ensure teams had to go through the checkpoint.
Other teams made the wise strategic decision to mountain bike to the top of the canyon, leave their bikes at the top and backtrack on foot to the first check point.
“When I was planning the race the night before I set a GPS point at the top of the canyon and I knew where to stop, leave my bike and run down, said Sharp of team Slowly Slowly.See All Event Posts
