Battle at Barlings Beach

With the majority of teams making the trip down on the friday of the January long weekend all competitors were champing at the bit by saturday morning, if they were hoping for an early finish Tom Alina and the AROC crew had other ideas and would make sure they would get value for money.

Once racers were registered, the required swim and paddle competancies were done and then competitors settled into pouring over the maps and working out what gear would go in the gear boxes and for which TAs, the briefing made things abit clearer and the google earth presentation enlightened us all of the scope of what was to come.

In brief, competitors hoping for an early finish were to be greeted at TA9 (this also doubled as 10/11) by 3 bonus leg options depending on thier arrival time.

The race would prove to have everything, the MTB didnt dissapoint with some sweet single track and the coasteering was very cool(ing), even though mother nature played with the paddlers as a toddler would with toys in a bath tub, this did eventuate in a portage for the later teams and credit has to be given to the guys out in the rescue craft for keeping an eye on the competitors.

The weather abated as darkness fell and the teams raced on into and through the night.
