Adventure racing is not merely hopping on a bike and riding into the wilderness. Adventure racing is about seeking new challenges, new opportunities, and testing our abilities against ourselves enabling us to discover our own inner potential. Put that way, the adventure race experience is really no different than everyday living. So, why then, do adventure racers push themselves out into the wilderness to test themselves against the clock in thick bush, muddy trails, swampy water, and mosquito-infested terrain?
The answer is simple. If you can complete an adventure race, you can get through just about anything. Stress, working with others, and getting tasks completed in daily living seem to pale in comparison to the tribulations of getting through a race either as a solo racer, or part of a team. I have often heard people who have completed a race say “I can do anything now.�
