Bimbache Extrem 2007 - Spain, Andalucia
Countdown to Bimbache Extrem 2007
Robyn Ferrar / 16.03.2007

The countdown has begun for the 2007 Bimbache Extrem Expediton Race to be held once again in Andalucia, Spain. A World Series qualifier, this year’s race has an impressive line-up and, in terms of timing and duration, is the ideal preparation for the ARWC, to be held in Scotland at the end of May. This weekend, teams from all over the world will gather at an undisclosed location in the area of Jaen, SW of Madrid. Then at 9am on Tuesday morning, 30 teams will embark on their quest for the Bimbache title 2007 and a guaranteed place in the ARWC.Impressive Line-up
Much to the surprise of the race organisers, only a third of this year’s entrants are from Spain, with 3 teams leaping the Atlantic for a Latin crusade. Fourth place Primal Quest Team Supplierpipeline from Canada will be among them. Other notable teams include Bimbache 2006 defending champions, Team Finland, who managed to bag 2nd place in the acclaimed ARWC in Sweden last year, so they could be considered one of the favourites to win next week.
One team that is used to seeing the backs of Team Finland, is Swedish team Lundhags Adventure. They came 2nd and 3rd in the afore mentioned races respectively, and so are once again hot on their heels in the favourites race.
Team Abarth-Teva from Spain are also in with a chance as winners of the DesafÃo de los Volcanes in Argentina 2005 and a 3rd place in Ecomotion Pro Brazil 2006. Team Buff Coolmax from Spain and France will also be there - winners of Bimbache Extrem 2005 and Ecomotion Pro Brazil 2005. Emma Roca is returning to racing after time out for the birth of her first child.
Among the UK teams, Aberdeen Asset Management will be hot contenders as the winners of last year's Wilderness ARC (this year’s ARWC) in Scotland. They had an unlucky year after Scotland with accidents and injuries in both the Primal Quest and ARWC Sweden, but will be trying to make up for lost opportunities this year, and definitely a team to watch.
