Rock and Ice Ultra
And Then There Were Ten – Results Update
Rob Howard / 19.03.2007

After camping out for the second night of the race at the remote Jennejohn stage camp only 10 competitors resumed the race, 5 in the K-Rock 160 and 5 in the Diamond 300. The remaining Italian competitor, Giuseppe Ruffino, decided not to continue, although we don’t know the reason as yet. He was the last into camp, arriving at 41 minutes past midnight, and with 4 long days still to go his slow pace was no doubt a factor.
The previous camp at Prelude Lake had been dismantled when competitors left, and after more remarkable logistics work was set up again and waiting for the racers when they arrived at Jennejohn. It will be moved again to Trout Lake for Diamond racers to use tomorrow night, but for tonight they will be back in Yellowknife at the Matrix stage camp in Yellowknife.
This is set up by the old town on the ice of Yellowknife Bay and comprises 4 pre-fabricated, tunnel shaped, tents (though buildings might be a more accurate description). They are 10x14x16 in size, with hard wood floors, and all are well heated with ample space for tables and chairs, a canteen and gear stores. There is even a wireless internet tent with laptops set up by NorthwesTel, so racers will be able to contact their families. The buildings are the type used as accommodation by mining companies in the area and will be a welcome haven for the racers.See All Event Posts
