Weather to Keep Going

The burning question in most racers´ minds today was undoubtedly whether or not they should keep going and, if yes, for how long? Many teams decided not to and by nightfall 13 teams had retired with only 1 or 2 carrying on unranked as a pair or threesome.

Gone Fishing
The weather had a lot to answer for in this dilemma and the weatherman was last seen at CP25 with his tackle and bait. The forecast this morning - although not promising a warm day - displayed a bright yellow sun and clear blue skies... as one might expect in Spain. However, by mid-morning the sun went out, a bitterly cold wind kicked up, and by 5pm it was actually snowing!!

T2 saw the demise of many a despondent team. Throughout the morning teams continued to trickle in and ask themselves if they were really strong, warm and able enough to leave a perfectly good tent and carry on. These included Teams Multitude Salomon and Irish AR Red Bull, both of whom decided to go no further.

Pain and Heartache
In the meantime the lead teams were back on their feet - sore ones at that - with Team Finland and some of Team FJS in visible discomfort. After over 7 hours of a trek that was expected to take 4, Buff Coolmax arrived at T3, looking comfortable up front. They had even managed to stretch their lead to 1 hour despite the unplanned ones.
