Crosshairs on Cordoba

Robyn Ferrar / 24.03.2007See All Event Posts Follow Event
The field has been reduced yet again with the withdrawal of two more teams and many changes and corrections to rankings. Team FJS were the last team flying the Swedish flag, but when Kristen became very ill with acute ‘AR syndrome’ (the result of that lethal combination of synthetic foods, medication, exhaustion and dehydration) they were finally forced to withdraw. That reduces the field to 10 teams remaining on the course as of early on in day four.

Peaceful Sleep
For Buff Coolmax - and to some extent Team Finland as well – the night passed quickly and uneventfully. Both teams slept through most of it waiting for the start of the final kayak stage. Team Teva, on the other hand, had a tough night on their bikes and arrived at the kayaks looking much more fragile than when they left. Despite that, they somehow managed to fly through the transition and were on their boats 15 minutes after dropping their bikes.

A Flying Finish
The final paddle to T14 was at least 7 hours down a slow moving river and into the city of Cordoba. Docking in Cordoba meant the hard part was over but the finish line was still a few miles away towards the north side of the city. The finish would have been hard to miss for Buff Coolmax as a huge hot air balloon was waiting to guide them home in a time of 66 hours and 51 minutes. And as a bonus stage, they got to abseil off it to celebrate their victory. All very nice, but all Emma wanted was baby Roca.See All Event Posts
