Baja Travesia
Baja Travesia and Spring Break
Paul Romero / 26.03.2007

36 hours to the launching of Baja Travesia. Athletes from all over Canada, U.S., Mexico, Scotland, France and Brazil have converged onto this most festive beach town of Ensenada. Known for it's destination of spring break and off road racing, this week is now adventure race headquarters for north America. Weather and climate has been all the talk. It's spring and warm today, but a big winter storm passed just 48 hours ago, and another winter cold storm is brewing off the coast, expected on land just after the start of the race. Last week's storm brought snow to the high mountains, heat can be a factor in the deserts, strong winds and large swells can haunt the Pacific shoreline. Conditions are all over the map.
Organizers have warned these athletes for weeks about Baja, and you can hear the buzz of nerves in air at race headquarters.
Today teams were tested for ropes and ocean certification, and a number of teams that didn't heed the warnings of serious paddling and ropes testing were turned back for a second test.
In the end all teams were approved and headed back to work on gear and find an outlet for their nervous energy.
More to come. We've been scouting all of Baja for wireless connections and we've found several in some places that quite surprised us. We'll be posting reports as often as possible to keep you all informed about your favorite teams and loved ones.
Buenas Noches.
