Heroic Home-Coming

The final day saw the remaining teams on the course courageously battle their way to the finish line. They all made it too, taking 5th to 10th places as a result, but some had to sacrifice completing the full course to make it home in time.

Making Waves
Roadrunners proved they were more than proficient on water too. They had a cracking last day, and finished the final paddle and run 6 minutes faster than the winners! Sunburnt, hobbling, and using a trekking pole for a crutch, one roadrunner was overheard saying he’d be back to normal by tomorrow. I suspect that’s the attitude that helped get them through nearly five days of racing, and now they have 5th place and a few extra euros to keep their minds off the pain.

Sixth place Camracers had an added obstacle to overcome before the finish. They got to T13 to find their kayak kit was not there. This was a case of deja vu as they didn’t get their skates at T6 either (perhaps they were given to Roadrunners). All Camracers wanted was to get to the finish as soon as possible, but instead had to wait 2 hours (timed out of course) for their kit to arrive. This meant that Salt & Pepper, being stronger paddlers, managed to catch up on the water and the two teams crossed the finish line only minutes apart just before 7pm.

Saddle Sore
Team Proinde got to do their final paddle, having arrived at T13 straight from T6. Both Costa Daurada and Team Croatia managed to get themselves to the finish too, although not by boat. Having missed the cut-off, both teams had no choice but to continue on the bikes they’d already spent so many hours on. This meant that Costa Daurada, with most of the course completed, took 8th place, Team Croatia took 9th and Proinde 10th. Well done to all of them for never giving up!See All Event Posts
