Baja Travesia
From Kayaks to Bikes
Karen Lundgren / 28.03.2007

A quick report from the middle of nowhere. A wireless connection at a small school in a tiny little town called Santo Tomas. The teams have transitioned from kayaks to bikes. They all have EPIC stories of the surf and waves. Kayak Lake Mead, father, daughter and son led the kayak leg finishing 18 minutes ahead of Team DART. The front teams are still running close.
Team Barely Legal was excited to make it to La Bocana unharmed and thrilled that they had decided to continue. Team DART too/NW Kayaks and Team Exodus were missing for a short time and later found enjoying a hot meal on the coast with a local family. I'll have to get more on that story later. The six are all fine.
Team Aguan/Thin Air continued to have bad luck and they were rescued by the Mexican Navy. Crews will pick them up and they plan to continue on the bike leg as soon as they can return to the course.
Everyone else is well. The weather is a little chilly and windy, but after the kayaks the teams thought it was fantastic.
Team Racing With Giants was ecstatic about the course and their progress on the kayak. "We were the only team to ride our kayaks all the way to the shore." "It was tough out there, we have a few discussions with the AR Gods, but we are happy to be here and we are psyched by our performance this far," said Hani.
Off to catch some more teams and more stories for you. Paul is on the course with his motorcycle checking on the teams. Antonio is heading to the North part of the course to catch the front runners.
More later hopefully along with some photos. KarenSee All Event Posts
