Racing With Giants/Dirty Avocodos Takes the All Male Division

Paul Romero / 31.03.2007See All Event Posts Follow Event
All male division champions Team Racing with Giant/Dirty Avocados- representing northern California raise the bar for Californians. In the midst of all the anguish of that comes with racing 350 kilometers, these boys exhibit an attitude and mentality that exemplifies professionalism and maturity. No matter the fatigue and stress, each of them take a moment to thank every volunteer, compliment the course, and move about their racing business.

Bringing up the rear of the pack is Team Barely Legal. Led by Daniel Staudigel, 19, of San Diego, this threesome is likely the youngest competitive team on the expedition racing circuit. They are calm, cool, professional and quite frankly race like veterans.

Their mental fortitude was displayed, among many other times, at transition 4 (Campo Jaime). Some random bug had struck Paul Cassedy 19, and he spent the next 10 hours very ill and vomiting. Some discussion has started about abandoning the race. Like veterans, the team elected to wait it out, not pull the plug, and treat Paul with all he had available at this remote camp. Having realized the sacrifices made, and the mind blowing survival of the Pacific’s rage, they pushed on into the cold and high Sierras towards the real meat of the race. Erica contributes in all the usual manners of a teammate, and then some. She provides balance and the lady perspective that every team needs to be competitive on the international circuit very soon.
