Barely Legal Barely Misses

Paul Romero / 01.04.2007See All Event Posts Follow Event
Time just ran out for Team Barely Legal. The main and massive part of the course, the Canyon Esperanza just taxed the awesome threesome.

Paul Cassedy had battled a stomach ailment on day three, but managed to pull himself together for a 10 hour bike section to get to the Sierra. While descending the canyon, Paul again began to suffer weakness and stomach ailment, slowing the team such that making the 118 hour cutoff time was just not possible.

Captain and navigator Daniel said “once we realized our 50m per hour was not going to get us to the checkpoint in time, we took a relaxed approach to the canyon and enjoyed it tremendously. It was like nothing I ever imagined it to be, simply enormous.

Their family and friends that made the long haul to surprise the team was not disappointed about the DNF, but simply wanted their sons and daughter in San Felipe and safe. They were amazed (like everyone) by the accomplishment of these young racers. They certainly have plenty of racing ahead.
