The 4th Reunion d\'Aventures Event
Réunion d’Aventures AR coming up on Reunion Island, May 13-19
Jacqueline Windh / 25.04.2007

Reunion Island, located in the Indian Ocean east of Madagascar and 200 km SW of Mauritius, is an outlier “overseas region of the French Republic. It is a volcanic island, geologically similar to the big island of Hawai’i. The island is 63 by 45 km, and its geography is dominated by an extinct volcano called the Piton des Neiges that rises over 3000 m above sea level. Don’t let that leave you too complacent though – its restless neighbour Piton de la Fournaise has erupted over 100 times since the year 1640 – most recently right now!Race Director Gérard Fusil (thought of by many as the father of AR, as he was the creator of the first international Raid Gauloises nearly 20 years ago) is presenting an adventure race here this coming May.
Réunion d’Aventures will take place from May 13 to 19, 2007. In compensation for the difficulties in getting there, Fusil has simplified the logistics, making organization easier and costs lower. This year, teams of three will compete, with team members rotating between two racing and one acting as support crew (renting a vehicle to do this). Same-sex and mixed teams are welcomed, and there is also a special category for teams made up of one family. There are three course categories: extreme, adventure and discovery.
Disciplines for 2007 will include hiking with navigation, mountain biking, canyoneering, roller blading, swimming with snorkel and fins, vertical rope techniques, and caving.See All Event Posts
