The night-before fever is on.

Alea acta est. We have 15 teams in the Masters category and 50 in the shorter Amateur category.

The technical briefing, given in two languages, has just finished - first in Polish (the Czech teams also choose this language version), then in English for foreign team. This year we have racers from Hungary, Romania, Croatia, Slovenia, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway and Finland. We have also one really mixed team – half of the Romanian team Grind are women.

The night-before fever is on. Instead of sleeping, the teams are preparing packs for the transition areas, checking their equipment and staring at the maps, looking for the best and the least tiring routes.

Even though it is the first of May, high in the Tatras it’s still winter – 120 cm of snow, and today in the morning the temperature had fallen to –9 degrees! The snow is hardpacked and icy, so crampons and ice axes will surely be necessary on the first trekking stage. Later in the day the snow is expected to become softer, especially in the sunnier places.
