‘Boyz in the Buff’ Blitz Glentress Trailquest

This was going to be the last day of this fantastic weather before the rain! So we kept the mud guards and crud catchers off, and were looking forward to blowing the dust off to clean the bikes after the race!

Glentress is a great area as it has some fantastic tracks and some huge hills! A perfect setting for the 3rd National Trailquest.

The start was at Buzzard nest car park, just beside the area that you can watch 10 year old kids pulling wheelies and endo’s over ramps, jumps, burms and other scary stuff that just really shows you how little control and skill you have over the bike! As we were getting dressed into our skinny lycra and deciding whether sun glasses would be a good move, the young dare devils were looking at us with smiles and giggles as they were looking like someone out of Star Wars.

Having won this race 2 years ago with Bryan Singleton my ‘Boys in the Buff’ team mate and also won last year as a solo the pressure was on, especially as Bryan was doing it solo in the Vets!

The map was difficult to decipher as there is a whole network of one way tracks. Setting off clockwise I left some lower value controls to the end … if I had time, It took some time to get used to the 1/15:000 map as I was shooting past the junctions. So I decided to slow down and concentrate more.

The variety of fast down hill single track, big forest tracks and also some overgrown un-cyclable tracks gave those who chose the wrong track to cycle up a lot of problems. There was a small map error that confused most people who went for 13 and 14, but all the rest were in the correct place and very easy to spot.

Once we were all back, every one chatted to see if they had a good route. I kept my winning streak and Bryan won the Vets, so it was a successful day for us both. A big thanks to the organisers!
