The 2007 Adventure Race World Championship
Blackheart/Kellys Base Camp Get Their Girl
Rob Howard / 24.05.2007

This team has had long, long search to find a female racer ...\"Our first girl (Danielle) was injured at a mountain bike race in New Zealand. Then we had a US racer who had to pull out last minute (after we arriving in UK 2 weeks ago). Then we had another girl apply who we felt wasn’t experienced enough. Then came Ali who was all set to go but could not get time off work from her boss! Then at last U.K. racer Sarah Odell joined up and arrives at 10.30 tonight.\"
Sarah is a very experienced racer and the only British racer to be on a winning Raid Gauloises team. She also inspired Race Director Phil Humphreys to start his AR company when he saw a magazine article about her competing Eco-Challenge.
The team are happy to have her on board after their long search as we have little experience in the race conditions in Scotland. (They had to find a stand in for team photo!)
That’s not been their only problem however, their gear has also been delayed or not arrived at all!
“We airfreighted our gear and its not arrived, including all our kayaking gear, food etc. We sent 15 boxes and get a few a day!
It’s given us a few headaches but we’ve been enjoying a road trip as we’ve been here 2 weeks and bought an old van to drive around, visiting the Lake District on the way. We have another 2 weeks touring after the race as well.\"
The team also have some local support as while I was talking to them some children from Mallaig Morar and Arisaig Primary Schools arrived and said they’d adopted the team to support during the race - so they did a quick interview and had a photo taken together.See All Event Posts
