Pushing Trolleys to Morar

Robyn Ferrar / 27.05.2007See All Event Posts Follow Event
The Estuary of Morar was a sight for sore eyes for the teams. Not only is it a stunningly beautiful place, with tropical turquoise waters and white sandy beaches, it is also sanctuary from the howling northerly wind that had drastically slowed their progress. As they made their way north, through the ‘scaries’ (the rocks and small islands scattered just off-shore), they were really struggling to keep forward momentum.

The general consensus is that the Sound of Rum was hard-work and very choppy with a cross-wind. Things got easier crossing to the mainland but then they turned into the wind to get to Morar. So, despite the brilliant weather we’re enjoying, it is deceptively rough out to sea.

Bath-Tub Derby
Team OrionHealth.com landed at the portage first, with Balance Vector right behind them. There are many very different boats on the water – slow, fat plastic ones, and fast, sleek glass/carbon ones – so it was a surprise to see Balance Vector hauling boats that more closely resembled plastic bathtubs than race boats. They “didn’t expect to be so far up in this stage - perhaps it is the Ferrari-red colour that keeps them on the tail of the leaders in their white speed-machines.
