The 2007 Adventure Race World Championship
Last Over the Line
Rob Howard / 02.06.2007

Cotswold Outdoor were the last team to cross the finish line at 10.37 this morning, bringing ARWC 2007 to a close. The race is over and everyone is safely back, though there is still plenty of packing, breaking down, collecting in etc. to do – the marshals and volunteers will continue to work as hard as ever. There is the race party and presentation to prepare and attend tonight as well, and second hand shops in Fort William will be busy with teams looking for kilts and tartan for the fancy dress.Cotswold Outdoor were in good spirits crossing the line, one of many teams who have taken the available short course options that have been such a feature of the race. They made the most of their time on the course!
“That was hard and a long way, said team captain Ian McNab, “especially taking our kayaks overland! The portage was obviously still fresh in his mind. Erica Henson said, “We probably only had 2 hours sleep a night, about 12 or 13 hours over the week, but we feel surprisingly good today.
Asked by Race Director Phil Humphreys what the highlight had been she said, “Probably the middle part of the first mountain biking section, but that first paddle too. We were in the Necky boats and they were quite stable. I must admit we had a snigger seeing all the other faster racing boats tipping over! The worst part for me was the trekking on tarmac when we were rerouted due to bad weather. That messed up our feet and was no fun.
“It was a shame we didn’t get to do the Aonach Eagach ridge but I suppose we can come back and do the bits we missed another time!
Phil Humphreys asked if she wanted to go back up and collect in the one or two remaining checkpoints but she didn’t seem keen. “Maybe not right now, was her reply.See All Event Posts
