Team Salomon/Crested Butte Wins Breckenridge Adventure Xstream Race

Breckenridge, CO (July 24, 2006) – On July 21st & 22nd, more than 300 adventure racers battled it out over 60-mile; 100-mile and Sprint race courses in Summit County consisting of mountain biking, kayaking, trail running, inline skating, orienteering and trekking. Top teams vying for cash prizes, series points and Checkpoint Tracker National Championship Points included Team Salomon/Crested Butte, Team AR Coach/Timberland, Team BagelWorks, Team Boulder Performance Network and Team 4Corners Adventure Racing.
The 24 hour race started with a sprint to Lake Dillon where racers navigated amongst three checkpoints on Dillon Reservoir. The 24 hour racers then ran to the Frisco Peninsula area for a challenging 30 Control Point Orienteering Section designed for the racers by the Rocky Mountain Orienteering Club. Racers then raced off for the trekking section over several mountain peaks before a fast and fun inline skate section. Then the racers tackled a 40+mile mountain bike section with highlights including the spectacular Colorado Trail.

Team Salomon/Crested Butte (Jari Kirkland, Eric Sullivan, Jon Brown and Max Nuttleman) took first place in the Breckenridge Adventure Xstream 24 hour Race 4-person Co-ed category with a winning time of 15 hours and 19 minutes. Second place went to Team Boulder Performance Network who actually finished the race first but who had 30 minutes in penalties from mis-punched wristbands on the O-Course. Team AR Coach/Timberland finished 3rd.
