A long and tiring first day...

Paul Romero / Team Sole / 04.10.2007See All Event Posts Follow Event
Are they racers or race reporters? Once again, Team Sole blurs the line and does it all! Paul Romero takes a break from competition this week, after having been rewarded with what he calls “the gift that just kept on giving, a bug acquired at his last race in South America, so he is providing us with reports from Extreme Adventure Hidalgo. Over twenty teams, coming from Europe, USA and Mexico, are registered for this long-running event.

Racing alongside Paul’s partner Karen Lundgren are NZ’s Marcel Hagener and British Columbia’s Chad Ulansky, both who regularly race with Sole. Many thanks to Paul and to Team Sole for providing race coverage!

This event has a long running reputation as the \'tour de France\' of adventure racing. Known for massive crowds, and festivities rarely seen at multisport events, \'Hidalgo\' (as it\'s become known) is organized by the famous Ernesto Rivas. A very successful relationship with the government and a community that genuinely supports adventure racing creates an atmosphere that few adventure racers get to experience.

Having some phone conversation with captain Karen Lundgren the night before the start of stage 1, Karen stated \"the weather is nice, and we\'ve just got the maps and saw we\'ll have about a 10 hour stage with lots of biking-relatively flat and fast, but some technical running and ropes section....we didn\'t sleep much last night with lengthy travel and bus rides but everything is in order and we\'re ready to rock.\"See All Event Posts
