SleepMonsters do not have one of our regular international race reporters at Ecomotion, but we will do our best to provide coverage with the help of some friends, competitors and our Brazilian Editor, Wladimir Togumi. If news is a bit sketchy please bear with us!

Ecomotion Pro 2007 takes place form October, 18-28 and the race will be hosted by the city of Búzios, on the north coast of Rio de Janeiro State.

With a 444 Km course, racers will be challenged in orienteering, trekking, mountain biking, paddling, rafting, vertical ropes, horseback riding and a \'surprise test\'.

“We expect a high level race this year. Seven of the eight first teams in ARWC 2007 will be present, and the best Brazilian teams too, said Said Aiach Neto, race organizer. “Some teams will find the race a little shorter than last year, but it will not be less beautiful.

Athletes can expect to run, paddle and ride in some remote areas and in some unique and exclusive places that are not present in the traditional tourism guide.

This year Ecomotion made a partnership with ONG SOS Mata Atlântica and Max Ambiental and calculated all emissions of CO2 during the 10 days of event and received a Carbon Free Certificate. Last year Ecomotion Pro became the first sport event in Brazil to receive this certificate.

On Thursday the teams started registration and equipment checks, but only their personal first aid kit and rope equipment was checked. All other obligatory equipment will be checked in the middle of the race.

On Saturday organizers will provide a lunch for the teams and they will have the opportunity to get to know each other and exchange team shirts and gifts. Then at 21h 30 the Opening Ceremony and race briefing begins.

According to the rumors, on Sunday all teams will have to go back to the city of Rio de Janeiro, a two hour road trip, for the start.

56 teams representing 12 countries are already in Búzios and have completed their registration and equipment checks, like Team Sole, Merrell, Buff and Orionhealth. They will be racing against the strongest Brazilian teams; Atenah Natura, Mitsubishi QuasarLontra, Motorola SOS Mata Atlântica and Oskalunga Sundown.See All Event Posts
